Hudson's Bay Fur Company Presentation Pipe
Tomahawk
This is a museum quality pipe tomahawk of
the type presented to leading chiefs by the large English fur
trading company, Hudson's Bay.
All mountings to include inlays and bands
are sterling silver. All engraving is entirely by hand. The
top diamond inlays are a stand of Indian Arms and a Hudson's
Bay presentation which reads, "H.B, 1773 North America With a
lance & Tomahawk." The other diamond inlays are engraved with
a star motif.
All engraved bands are surmounted by a
circular band of 14 karat gold & sterling silver dots.
The top cap is an engraved Folk Art "Sunface".
The 19 inch haft is beautiful curly maple
with 100% tight curl as can be seen in the picture taken in
bright sunlight. This vivid curl runs the entire length of the
haft. The base cap is additionally engraved with an Indian
stand of arms pattern.
There are a total of 10 sterling silver
inlays, of which eight are diamonds. The four sterling bands
are complemented with a circle of 14k gold & silver studs.
The steel head is 6 3/4 inches long and
fully engraved.
I cannot over emphasize the quality of this
pipe tomahawk and it is fully functional and has been smoked.
This would have been a gift truly worthy given to an important
Indian chief by the Hudson's Bay Trading Company.
The entire hawk has the look and feel of a
250 year old original with a color and patina of an original.
Sure to please the most advanced and
discriminating collector, an absolute showpiece. It's museum
quality but is just like those hawks used by early frontier
fighters, mountain man, and chiefs along with his Kentucky
rifle.
